Glass, although recognized for thousands of years as a craft material, is very new and exciting to fine arts. There are many areas within the medium of glass that have not been explored. I have a hard time expressing myself through words so I use the medium and my concepts to speak for me. As an adventurous person, I feel that glass is a material that I can utilize to explore my own thoughts and ideas. It excites me to just make an object that can be enjoyed by the people who see my work. In 2006, I graduated from Salem Community College finishing the glass program and receiving my Associates in Fine Arts. During my time at Salem I was able to study with glass artists Paul Stankard, Anna Boothe, Paul DeMarco, Thomas Muller-Litz, and most recently Gianni Toso. Currently I am working as a freelance glass artist in Millington, Maryland where I am making functional work including jewelry, seashells, assorted sea life, and functional objects. My work is focused on creating aesthetic objects for others to use and admire. As a result of my studies in glass my outlook within the medium has changed and developed rapidly. I have begun to increase my attention on the design elements such as color, form and textures rather than the ability or technique to create an object for the sake of production. I have recently been blessed with a beautiful baby girl who is going to bring a whole new dynamic to my work. I am currently focused on refining my jewelry designs and developing a product portfolio in an effort to raise my family and continue to explore more developed concepts and creative attempts of expression. |
